Have you ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels, doing all the “right” things whether its work, family or personal development? Yet somehow nothing seems to move forward? You’re not imagining it. That feeling of being stuck is real, and it happens to almost everyone at some point in life.
Here’s the good news: being stuck isn’t a sign of failure. It’s a signal. A signal that your life, your routines, or your mindset might need a gentle reset.
What ‘stuck’ can feel like
Being stuck isn’t just about external circumstances. It shows up in ways like:
- Feeling overwhelmed, even when your day is “productive.”
- Questioning your choices or doubting your own abilities.
- Avoiding decisions because fear whispers “what if you get it wrong?”
- Comparing yourself constantly to others and feeling behind.
For parents, it can feel like juggling a thousand tasks without a moment for yourself. For people pursuing personal growth, it can feel like a gap between who you are and who you want to be. For professionals, it can feel like not having the right work-life balance and not enough time for you or family.
Recognising these signs is the first step toward breaking free.
Why does this happen?
Often, being stuck isn’t about skill, talent, or intelligence. It’s about:
- Limiting beliefs: “I’m not enough,” “I can’t do both,” “I should already have figured this out.”
- Overwhelm: When too many roles, responsibilities, or decisions pull your attention in every direction and not knowing what to prioritise.
- Lack of clarity: Not knowing what your next small step looks like, so nothing changes.
The truth? It’s not your fault. Our beliefs shape these patterns. Beliefs are our internal principles or accepted truths. They are generally formed from information that we derived have derived from society, our upbringing, our culture and other influences and experiences. Our beliefs can create expectations, even though its unlikely we’re even aware that this is happening! Beliefs act as mental filters and are very subjective as they’re not necessarily based on evidence or knowledge.
The first step is simply noticing that that they exist and that you do this without judgment upon yourself.
The ‘shift’ that starts a new direction
Being stuck can actually be a gift. Why? It tells you:
- Something in your life needs alignment.
- You’re ready for growth, you just need a framework.
Here’s a simple exercise to start today:
- Take 10 minutes and write down the areas where you feel stuck.
- Next to each, write one small action you could take this week.
- Notice which actions excite you. This is where you should put your energy.
Small steps towards helpful habits, can break pre-conceived thoughts and beliefs. They turn ‘stuckness’ into momentum.
